Davido Wears Names of 39 Abducted Pupils on World Cup Stage, Begs Govt: ‘Bring Them Home’

Afrobeats superstar Davido transformed his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles into a powerful plea for justice, demanding government action for the abducted pupils and teachers from Oyo State.

The singer wore a customised black leather jacket with green badges bearing the names of the 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15. The jacket boldly displayed the message “BRING THEM HOME” across the back, with victims’ names colour-coded — white for those still in captivity, red for those who had lost their lives.

Before taking the stage, an emotional Davido expressed sympathy for the affected families and urged the government to intensify rescue efforts.

“May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed. They still haven’t been rescued. We are praying every day and also praying that the government hastens its intervention,” he said.

The performance made Davido the first African artist to perform at two consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments. Fans praised the gesture as a powerful use of his global platform to highlight a pressing national crisis.
