Former member of the House of Representatives and statesman, Rt. Hon. Sir Sam Onuigbo, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in strengthening the nation’s democratic institutions as the country marks 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
In his Democracy Day message, Onuigbo joined the people of Abia Central Senatorial District, Abians, and Nigerians nationwide in celebrating the enduring values of democracy while acknowledging that the nation still has work to do in achieving the democracy of its aspirations.
He noted that although Nigeria may not have attained the democracy of its dreams, citizens must not lose hope but continue the collective task of deepening the country’s democratic evolution.
According to him, there is an urgent need to renew commitment to building a society founded on peace, inclusiveness, accountability, and sustainable development.
“Together, we can strengthen our democratic institutions and create a brighter future for generations to come,” he stated.
The former lawmaker further reminded Nigerians that democracy thrives on the active participation of citizens and a strong sense of civic responsibility.
He urged all Nigerians to continue contributing positively to nation-building, expressing optimism that the country’s democracy would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
Happy Democracy Day.
