Nigeria Bleeding, Confused, Minority Reps Lament Insecurity

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has delivered a blistering assessment of the state of the nation, declaring that “Nigeria is bleeding, Nigeria is confused” .

Addressing journalists at the National Assembly, Minority Leader Hon. Fred Agbedi accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing to address worsening insecurity, economic hardship and threats to democratic institutions while focusing prematurely on 2027 politics .

The caucus condemned the killing of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State before dying in captivity. “That a General of the Nigerian Army could be kidnapped and later declared dead under unclear circumstances is a grave indictment of a failed state,” Agbedi declared .

The lawmakers also expressed concern over schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State who remain in captivity, calling for immediate coordinated rescue operations .

They criticised a recent Federal High Court judgment ordering INEC to deregister five opposition parties, describing it as “a calculated attempt to muscle legitimate opposition out of the 2027 Presidency” . The caucus welcomed the Court of Appeal’s intervention halting the judgment, but urged vigilance .
