ABUJA – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan has not confided in him about any intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made this clarification on Friday during an interaction with journalists in Abuja. He was responding to widespread media speculation that Jonathan is being pressured to re-enter the presidential race.
“You’re the one telling me here. Jonathan has never told me; he has never called me one day that, look, I’m being pressured to run, what’s your thinking?” Wike stated. He emphasized that he would not assume media reports to be correct without direct communication from the former president.
The minister also distanced himself from the emergence of Kabiru Turaki as a consensus candidate for the PDP National Chairman, stating, “I don’t know about Tanimu Turaki becoming chairman.”
Furthermore, Wike dismissed the PDP’s upcoming national convention as illegal, confirming he has no plans to attend an event he believes violates the party’s laws.
