The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has disclosed that it apprehended more than 38,000 traffic offenders across Lagos during the second quarter of 2026 as part of efforts to improve traffic management and enforce road safety regulations.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the General Manager of LASTMA said the enforcement drive targeted motorists who violated traffic laws, including driving against traffic, illegal parking, obstruction of roadways, reckless driving, and other offences that contribute to congestion and road accidents.
According to the agency, the large number of offenders reflects its intensified enforcement operations and commitment to ensuring compliance with traffic regulations across the state. The General Manager reiterated that LASTMA would continue to deploy officers strategically to maintain order on major roads and intersections.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the agency also urged motorists to obey traffic rules, cooperate with traffic management personnel, and avoid actions capable of endangering other road users. It stressed that compliance with road traffic laws remains essential to reducing accidents and easing congestion in Lagos.
The authority further noted that public awareness campaigns would continue alongside enforcement activities to educate drivers on safe road practices and the importance of responsible driving.
Residents were encouraged to support the agency’s efforts by complying with traffic regulations and reporting incidents that could disrupt the free flow of traffic.
