The Nigerian Navy has dismantled an illegal crude oil storage infrastructure allegedly used by oil thieves in Rivers State as part of its ongoing crackdown on crude oil theft and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the operation was carried out by naval personnel during a routine anti-crude oil theft patrol. The illegal facility, reportedly hidden within the creeks, was discovered following intelligence gathering and surveillance by security operatives.
According to the Navy, the operation led to the destruction of several makeshift storage facilities and equipment suspected to have been used for the illegal storage and movement of stolen crude oil. The service reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s oil and gas assets while warning individuals involved in illegal bunkering to abandon the criminal enterprise or face the full weight of the law.
The Navy further stated that the operation forms part of sustained efforts to curb pipeline vandalism, illegal refining, and crude oil theft, which continue to impact the nation’s economy and the environment.
