ABUJA – There was jubilation on Monday evening as 15 individuals, including activist Omoyele Sowore and Nnamdi Kanu’s lead counsel, Barr. Aloy Ejimakor, were released from the Kuje Correctional Centre after meeting their bail conditions.
The group was initially detained in connection with their presence at the Federal High Court in Abuja during the resumed trial of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Their arrest had drawn widespread criticism from civil rights advocates who labeled it a violation of the constitutional rights to open trial and legal representation.
According to ABN TV, the release followed intense legal engagements and the swift processing of their bail requirements. Their freedom triggered celebrations among family members, supporters, and the pro-Biafra community.
Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, was in court to observe proceedings and show solidarity with Kanu. Barrister Ejimakor has been a central figure in the legal team challenging Kanu’s detention by the DSS.
Their release provides a moment of relief amid the ongoing tensions surrounding the high-profile terrorism trial, which continues to attract significant national and international attention.
