The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reopened a surrender window for armed groups operating in Nigeria’s South-East, calling on gunmen to lay down their weapons and embrace peace.
The military said the initiative offers another opportunity for those involved in violent activities to renounce crime and reintegrate into society under existing government programmes.
According to the DHQ, the move is part of ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the South-East through a combination of military operations and non-kinetic approaches.
Military authorities stressed that those who refuse to surrender will continue to face decisive operations by security forces, adding that troops remain committed to protecting lives, safeguarding critical infrastructure and maintaining law and order across the region.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the renewed surrender window reflects the Federal Government’s broader strategy of encouraging peaceful resolution while sustaining pressure on criminal elements threatening security in the South-East. The report was gathered from official statements by the Defence Headquarters.
