Former presidential candidate Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the Christmas Eve suicide bombing at the Al-Adum Mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, which killed at least four worshippers and injured over 30.
In a press release on Friday, Adesanya-Davies described the attack as a “grave assault on humanity, faith and national conscience” and a tragic reminder of Nigeria’s persistent insecurity.
While commending the swift deployment of over 16,000 tactical security personnel nationwide following the blast, she stressed that Nigeria must move beyond crisis-driven reactions to a sustainable, intelligence-led security strategy.
“Terrorism thrives where intelligence gaps, local collaboration and socio-economic neglect persist,” she warned, noting that Nigeria’s sixth-place ranking in the 2025 Global Terrorism Index reflects deep systemic challenges.
Adesanya-Davies praised the assurances of Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Bola Tinubu that perpetrators would face justice but called for transparent investigations and prosecutions.
She urged religious and community leaders to foster interfaith dialogue and early-warning systems, and emphasized that protection of worship centers and vulnerable communities should be a year-round priority, not only during festive seasons.
