Senior leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on political appointees and youths in the North-West to begin mobilizing for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring it “pay-back time.”
The call was made at a “Renewed Hope Promise Kept 2027” mobilization meeting in Abuja, convened by the Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Goronyo. APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, emphasized that all political appointees must actively engage in party politics, stating, “There is nothing like technocrats… Once you are given a political appointment, you are a politician.”
Yilwatda described the North-West as the “bedrock” of the party’s 2023 victory, noting it holds about 20% of total APC membership nationally. He warned that appointees who fail to campaign for the party would not be tolerated.
Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, echoed the sentiment, urging unity to retain the region’s status as the party’s top “vote basket.” Ministers at the event highlighted infrastructure projects and youth-focused programs like the student loan scheme as achievements to campaign on.
The meeting signals the APC’s early start to campaign preparations for 2027, with a clear strategy to leverage its appointees for grassroots mobilization.
