A leadership dispute within the Abia State chapter of the City Boy Movement (CBM) escalated on Thursday as members protested the suspension of the State Organising Secretary, Dr. Charles Ukeagu.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the protest took place at the Movement’s headquarters in Umuahia, with demonstrators calling for Ukeagu’s six-month suspension to be reversed.
Speaking after the protest, Ukeagu defended the action by his supporters, describing it as a peaceful demand for justice and fairness. He also called for dialogue and reconciliation, saying internal disagreements should not weaken the organisation.
Ukeagu alleged that some administrative decisions within the Movement had raised concerns about transparency and accountability. He maintained that he remained committed to the organisation and was willing to reconcile with the leadership.
The protesters, led by Comrade Emeka Kenneth Uche, also appealed to the Movement’s Patron, Barr. Seyi Tinubu, to intervene and help resolve the dispute.
However, the Movement’s Deputy State Director, Hon. Prince Chukwuemeka Osoagbaka, defended the suspension.
Osoagbaka said a disciplinary committee investigated allegations of insubordination against Ukeagu and recommended his suspension. He stressed that the action was not an expulsion and that Ukeagu remained a member with the right to seek redress through internal channels.
Both sides expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Movement’s objectives ahead of the 2027 elections.
The protesters later dispersed peacefully after presenting their grievances and called for an urgent meeting to resolve the crisis.
