Presidency Dismisses Opposition Criticism, Defends Tinubu’s Reforms and EFCC Independence

The Presidency has issued a robust dismissal of recent allegations from opposition parties, staunchly defending the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu and the operational independence of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement on Saturday, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described the opposition’s criticisms as “misguided” and politically motivated. He argued that the tough but necessary reforms—including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification—are beginning to yield long-term benefits for the economy, despite short-term hardships.

The statement also firmly rejected claims that the EFCC was being weaponized against political opponents, asserting that the anti-graft agency operates independently and within the bounds of its legal mandate. The Presidency urged Nigerians to look beyond political rhetoric and support the government’s agenda for national recovery.
