ABSU Lecturer Suspension: APC Chieftain Questions University’s Double Standard

UMUAHIA — An All Progressives Congress chieftain, Comrade Anyaragbu Chinweuba, has questioned the management of Abia State University, Uturu over what he described as a double standard in suspending Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze while the institution is under a strike order from the Academic Staff Union of Universities .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Professor Nwaeze was suspended on Thursday over social media posts revealing that some ABSU professors earn less than N400,000 monthly and that commercial tricycle riders make more than university lecturers . The university management described the posts as “inimical to the interests of the institution” .

CDA News Nigeria reports that Anyaragbu, a former aide to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who recently returned to the APC , argued that the suspension contradicts the institution’s compliance with the ongoing indefinite strike declared by ASUU-ABSU on August 11, 2026, over unresolved welfare demands . The union had issued a 14-day ultimatum on July 22, 2026, citing non-implementation of the 2025 salary structure and unpaid Earned Academic Allowances since 2009 .

If Professor Nwaeze’s claims were false, the government should have presented evidence rather than suspending the lecturer, Anyaragbu stated . The university has constituted an investigative panel to examine the matter .
