OSOGBO — Final preparations are in full swing for Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirming that over 1.9 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the INEC office along the Gbongan-Ibadan Road in Osogbo has become a hive of activity, with security agents, election observers, journalists, and civil society organisations on the premises for the final stages of preparation . The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, is holding meetings with National Commissioners and supporting RECs as final arrangements are concluded.
CDA News Nigeria reports that INEC has confirmed 1,906,390 PVCs collected out of 2,339,233 registered voters, representing an 81.50 per cent collection rate . The remaining 426,842 uncollected PVCs have been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria . Additionally, 6,101 applicants who applied for replacement of damaged or lost PVCs have printed downloadable copies .
The Nigeria Police Force has deployed 15,000 personnel for the election, with a Deputy Inspector-General of Police coordinating security operations . The police have also deployed helicopters, drones, and Mobile Police units, with four unarmed officers stationed at each of the 3,763 polling units . Quasi-security agencies like Amotekun and hunters will not participate in election security duties .
