UMUAHIA — A United Kingdom-based Abia critic, Mr. Eke O. Ako, has lamented the state’s infrastructure development despite the collection of over N2.3 trillion in funds since 2023, accusing Governor Alex Otti’s administration of celebrating mediocrity with only a few roads to show for the massive expenditure.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the critic, in a social media post, pointed out that aside from the Aba-Port Harcourt Road and the Obowo-Umuahia to Okpara Square road, there is little to show for the funds received by the state government . “The amount of money used in building the few roads could have been used to build over 23 roads across the state,” he argued, adding that the Umuahia car park is insufficient to justify the government’s performance.
CDA News Nigeria reports that official budget documents indicate that Abia State has consistently passed budgets exceeding N100 billion annually since 2023, with cumulative allocations surpassing N2.3 trillion over the period . A cumulative total of N2,311,629,882,220 was allocated for recurrent and capital expenditures from 2023 to 2026 . Governor Otti’s 2026 budget alone is N1.016 trillion .
The critic called on the governor to stop playing “witch hunt” politics and face the reality of the data, urging him to be transparent about how funds have been utilized. He also alleged that the government is using media content creators to deceive the public about its performance.
