Adeleke’s Win Deals Blow to One-Party State Myth, Says Ex-APC Spokesman

OSOGBO — A former All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesman in Lagos State, Mr Seye Oladejo, has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election in Osun State as a triumph for democracy and a significant setback for the narrative that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Oladejo, in a statement released on Monday, said Adeleke’s victory demonstrated the resilience and competitiveness of Nigeria’s democratic space. He argued that democracy should be measured not by how often the ruling party wins, but by whether citizens retain the freedom to choose their leaders and whether that choice is respected .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the APC chieftain noted that the movement of politicians across party lines into the ruling APC had generated concerns about the future of opposition politics. However, the Osun election provided what he described as a “useful reality check” to such fears, proving that no political party possesses a permanent certificate of victory . “If Nigeria were indeed marching towards a one-party state, an incumbent governor contesting under a platform outside the ruling party and securing re-election would hardly be compelling evidence,” he stated .

Oladejo also commended President Bola Tinubu for accepting the outcome and congratulating Adeleke, describing it as a test of democratic maturity . He further urged Adeleke to use his renewed mandate to deliver improved governance and development to the people of Osun .
