WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Oman if the country “gets in the way” of a US deal with Iran over control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Trump made the threat during a phone interview with Fox News journalist Trey Yingst on Monday, warning that if Oman interferes with the US blockade of Iranian ships, “we’ll bomb the shit out of them” . The threat comes as Omani and Iranian officials have been in weeks of talks regarding maritime navigation arrangements through the waterway, which Tehran has effectively closed since February .
CDA News Nigeria reports that Trump also called on Iran to “put up the white flag of surrender” and confirmed a direct backchannel between Washington and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, describing them as “good poker players, but they’re dying” . He insisted he was “not in a hurry” to resolve the conflict despite the deep unpopularity of the war ahead of November’s midterm elections .
The development follows Tehran’s announcement that an understanding has been reached with Oman regarding the “map of the transit route” for ships passing through the strait . Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted both sides are working to finalise details for a joint statement.
