LAFIA, NIGERIA — The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the party to beat at all levels in the upcoming 2027 general elections, as the ruling party continues to attract defectors from opposition parties .
Jatau made the declaration on Tuesday in Lafia while playing host to over 20 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders of Eggon extraction, who are set to dump their party for the APC . The team was led by Alhaji Abubakar Company, who described their members as “the brain behind election underperformance of APC candidates in Lafia villages and environs”.
Defectors Laud Governor Sule’s Leadership
Speaking on their decision to join the APC, Abubakar Company said they were shifting their tents as a result of the development and quality leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Speaker.
The team leader expressed confidence that they would add value to the party and ensure its victory beyond 2027.
Governor Sule has previously attributed the wave of defections to the positive impact of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which he said have improved revenue flows to states and enabled governors to execute visible development projects.
Speaker Assures Equal Opportunities
Jatau expressed joy and satisfaction with their decision, which he described as timely and well-informed . He assured all members, especially those recently joining from other parties, of equal opportunities and rights within the APC.
“I will inform the state governor and the party chairman of their move, after which they will be officially received,” the Speaker revealed.
He described their planned defection as another big catch and victory for the ruling party in the state.
Call for Unity Ahead of 2027
The Speaker called for loyalty, unity, and teamwork among party members to ensure a landslide victory in 2027 . He urged residents to continue praying and supporting the administration of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sule to succeed .
Jatau’s confidence in the APC’s prospects aligns with earlier statements by Governor Sule, who noted that the influx of governors and political heavyweights into the APC is already causing concern among opposition parties
. The governor has dismissed claims of Nigeria drifting toward a one-party state, emphasizing that “there is no way all the 36 governors in the country would belong to a single political party”.
The Speaker has also previously expressed confidence that the APC will survive beyond 2027 and that Governor Sule will hand over power to another APC governor when his tenure ends.
He has consistently urged party members to demonstrate absolute loyalty and unwavering support to Governor Sule and the party leadership, particularly in the crucial decision on who emerges as the party’s governorship flag bearer.
