Obi Lands in Jos After Benue Convoy Drama

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, landed in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Tuesday, just hours after leaving Benue State, CDA News Nigeria reports.

Obi was received at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang, by NDC officials, party supporters and Plateau stakeholders.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the former Anambra State governor had earlier been in Benue en route to Yelewata to sympathise with families affected by the June 2025 massacre, but suspected political thugs blocked his convoy at Gyado Villa on Gboko Road, stopping him from reaching Makurdi.

Reacting, Obi appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services to caution state governors against actions that could heighten tension during the political season, noting that he too once served as a governor.

In Jos, Obi is expected to proceed to Mangu Local Government Area to visit communities recently hit by deadly attacks, meet survivors and bereaved families, and assess the security situation on ground.

His running mate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, also weighed in on the Benue incident, calling for restraint from security agencies overseeing opposition movement nationwide.
