…Some Governors Sympathetic to Wike, Others Back Uzodimma, AbdulRazaq
The political disagreement between Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors has widened, with reports indicating divisions among the party’s governors ahead of the 2027 elections.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Vanguard reported on September 24 that some governors are sympathetic to Wike, while others are aligned with Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, as well as Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that governors including Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, and Ahmed Ododo of Kogi were described as sympathetic to Wike’s position. Uzodimma, AbdulRazaq, Uba Sani of Kaduna, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun were reported to be among those opposing the minister’s position.
At the centre of the disagreement is Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, which he says is designed to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election while allowing politicians to retain their party identities.
The APC governors, however, have declared that they will support only official APC candidates and reject political arrangements that could create parallel structures or divided loyalty within the party.
Wike has rejected the governors’ position and maintained that he does not require their endorsement for his political activities. He has also accused Uzodimma and AbdulRazaq of having undisclosed political interests.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that some governors remain undecided and are reportedly awaiting further direction from President Tinubu, whose return is expected to be important in resolving the dispute.
The disagreement adds another layer to the political realignment taking place ahead of the 2027 general elections.
