INTERPOL Arrests Two in Nigeria Over $2.4m Fraud

The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) has arrested two suspects in Nigeria in separate investigations into cybercrime, including an international investment fraud scheme linked to more than $2.4 million in suspected criminal proceeds.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the arrests were disclosed in a statement on Operation Serengeti III, a coordinated cybercrime enforcement operation published on INTERPOL’s website. The operation was carried out between June 29 and August 31, 2026, with law enforcement agencies from 21 countries participating.

According to the statement, Nigerian authorities arrested one suspect linked to a large-scale phishing and business email compromise operation that harvested software credentials and amassed approximately 2.1 million email addresses. The second suspect was apprehended for their involvement in the $2.4 million international investment fraud scheme.

The operation highlights the growing threat of transnational cybercrime and the importance of global law enforcement collaboration. INTERPOL noted that the suspects are currently facing prosecution in Nigeria, while authorities continue to trace and dismantle the wider criminal networks involved.
