Respect Nigeria’s Sovereignty, Ijaw National Congress Tells Trump

The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has responded to US President Donald Trump’s threat of military intervention in Nigeria, calling for respect for the nation’s sovereignty.

The President of the INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, stated that while he aligns with Nigerians in rejecting foreign intervention, the situation should serve as a critical opportunity for the Nigerian government to strengthen internal security.

“I emphasize the importance of dialogue and cooperation while ensuring the protection of Nigeria’s interests and territorial integrity,” Prof. Okaba said on Wednesday.

He urged the Federal Government to prioritize enhancing its own security measures and to engage in diplomacy to address the international concerns raised by the United States.

The statement comes as a direct response to President Trump’s recent comments about deploying troops to protect Christians in Nigeria.
