Soludo Ends Monday Sit-At-Home, Closes Onitsha Market

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has taken a decisive step to end the longstanding Monday sit-at-home practice, ordering the closure of Onitsha Main Market for one week after traders defied his directive to open for business.

The governor, who described the continued Monday closures as “economic sabotage,” questioned why markets in other South-East states now open on Mondays while Anambra’s remain shut. He warned that if the market fails to reopen next Monday, it would be shut for a month.

Soludo dismissed security concerns, stating that over 150 security personnel are stationed in the market, and insisted the sit-at-home has evolved into criminal enterprise disconnected from the original agitation for IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

Market leaders have since pledged compliance, requesting enhanced security and operational motor parks to support the return to a full business week.
