The Abia State APC Caucus has issued an official clarification regarding the suspension of the party’s congresses, which were scheduled to commence with ward congresses on February 18, 2026, dismissing rumors linking the delay to any planned defection by Governor Alex Otti .
In a statement signed by the Caucus, the party acknowledged widespread speculation about the growing momentum of APC in Abia State, including rumors of the Governor’s possible defection, but categorically stated that “the suspension has absolutely nothing to do with the defection of anyone” .
The Caucus drew a distinction between the Abia situation and that of Adamawa State, which reportedly involved issues surrounding Governor Fintiri’s defection. “The Abia case concerns internal friction and logistical challenges,” the statement clarified .
According to the Caucus, the National Working Committee (NWC) has formally communicated the suspension to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and is working diligently to resolve the issues within the shortest possible time .
The statement recalled that the Abia State Caucus initially announced the suspension before the official notice from the NWC, duly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary, was received by INEC .
“A new date will be communicated to members in due course, as the NWC encourages the Abia chapter to continue its impressive membership drive,” the Caucus added .
