LAGOS – The Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movements (AYDM) has issued a warning to South-West states to prepare for potential security consequences should the United States follow through on its threat to strike terrorist cells in Nigeria.
The socio-cultural group stated that while it believes there is an “open agenda to Islamise Nigeria,” a US military intervention could drive terrorists from their northern hideouts southward, potentially into the Yoruba heartland. The AYDM urged regional governors to collaborate with self-determination groups on intelligence gathering and community defense to protect their territories.
The group criticized Nigerian leaders for their “docile” response to ongoing violence and corruption, which it said drew international attention. It argued that the country is at a critical juncture, facing the prospect of either war or a peaceful breakup.
