BIRNIN KEBBI, Nigeria – The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its boycott of the party’s national convention in Ibadan, citing objections to the candidacy of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki for the position of national chairman.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the state chapter questioned Turaki’s legitimacy as a party member, referencing his suspension in April 2023 for alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and failure to pay party dues.
The Kebbi PDP had formally notified the convention’s screening committee of its rejection of Turaki’s nomination in an October petition. The chapter warned that any individuals presenting themselves as delegates from Kebbi State would be doing so without the party’s authorization.
All delegates from the state are reportedly remaining home in protest, marking a significant display of internal dissent as the convention proceeds without their participation.
