ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has encouraged the Super Eagles to put behind them their recent playoff loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo and immediately begin preparations for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
In a statement from the Presidency on Sunday, President Tinubu acknowledged the team’s disappointment after failing to secure a World Cup qualification spot but emphasized the importance of looking forward to continental competitions.
The President commended the players for their effort and dedication throughout the qualification campaign, noting that the team showed moments of brilliance despite the ultimate outcome.
“While the result against DRC is not what we hoped for, I urge our Super Eagles to channel this experience into positive energy as they prepare for AFCON,” President Tinubu stated.
He reassured the team of the federal government’s continued support and the nation’s unwavering belief in their capabilities to excel in international competitions.
