UMUAHIA – In a significant infrastructure move, the Abia State Government has officially commenced the reconstruction of the dilapidated 25-kilometer Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road.
The flag-off ceremony was performed on October 24th by the State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, at the timber market in Umuahia.
Despite being a Trunk A (Federal) Road, the state government is undertaking the project to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by residents. The road is a critical artery for trade and connectivity, linking communities within Abia and connecting to neighbouring Akwa Ibom State.
Governor Otti emphasized that the project underscores his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, aimed at easing movement for “Abians in particular and Nigerians in general.”
The reconstruction is expected to boost economic activities, reduce travel time, and improve the overall living standards for people in the region.
