Tension At MOUAU Over Alleged DSS Invitation Of Staff Ahead Of VC Appointment

UMUDIKE – Tension has gripped Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) following reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) invited several staff members over alleged plans to stage protests regarding the ongoing Vice-Chancellor appointment process.

According to sources within the university who spoke on condition of anonymity, the staff members were warned by security operatives to desist from any actions that could disrupt peace and order on campus.

The planned protest was reportedly aimed at demanding transparency in the selection process for a new Vice-Chancellor, which is expected to be concluded next month, with some staff advocating for the appointment of an Abia State indigene to the position.

Reacting to the developments, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Ubadire Agua, denied any arrests but confirmed that security operatives had invited a few staff for questioning.

Dr. Agua emphasized that the university had duly advertised the Vice-Chancellor position and encouraged all qualified persons to apply, assuring that the process remains “open, fair, and guided by due process.”

The situation has created an atmosphere of apprehension on campus as the university community awaits the outcome of the Vice-Chancellor selection process.
