A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Abia Central Senatorial contender, Chief Chukwunma Victor Nnochiri, has called on the Federal Government to address Nigeria’s internal security crises with the same decisiveness it showed in helping to foil a recent coup attempt in the Republic of Benin.
In a statement on Monday, Chief Nnochiri acknowledged and praised the government’s rapid intervention in Benin, where Nigerian support assisted pro-government forces in quashing soldiers who had seized national television and declared the ouster of President Patrice Talon.
However, he pointedly contrasted this external urgency with the perceived slow response to rampant banditry, terrorism, and violent crime within Nigeria’s borders. “If Nigeria can respond decisively to threats outside its borders, why has the government failed to act with urgency at home?” the statement questioned.
The ADC chieftain emphasized that true defense of democracy hinges not only on regional stability but also on domestic good governance, citizen welfare, and the protection of Nigerian lives. He urged the Tinubu administration to channel comparable resolve into securing Nigerian communities, stating that this is fundamental to sustaining democracy itself.
