APC Chieftain Anyaragbu Condemns Use of Ikwuano LGA Name to Endorse Otti — “Speak for Your Party, Not All of Ikwuano”

A strong and unambiguous warning has been issued by APC chieftain , Comrade Chinweuba Anyaragbu, condemning what he describes as a deliberate political misrepresentation by a group of Labour Party members who reportedly used the name of Ikwuano Local Government Area as a collective endorsement platform for Abia State Governor Alex Otti — after what was simply an internal LP party meeting.

Comrade Anyaragbu, speaking with characteristic directness, described the action as a political prank that must not go unchallenged, stressing that the endorsement of Governor Otti by LP members cannot and should not be generalised as the position of the entire Ikwuano LGA.

“Some people should stop using the Ikwuano LGA name for their political prank of endorsing Governor Otti,” Anyaragbu stated firmly.

“A group of LP members after their normal party meeting want to generalise it to Ikwuano as a whole. Simply say the Ikwuano LP elders have endorsed Otti — not all of Ikwuano. Use your party name. Do not generalise Ikwuano.”

The APC chieftain was emphatic that Ikwuano LGA as an entity is politically diverse, and that the APC — as a major political force within the constituency — has its own gubernatorial candidate and a distinct political direction heading into 2027.

“The APC has our gubernatorial candidate,” Anyaragbu declared. “No individual, no group, no party faction has the right to speak on behalf of all of Ikwuano. Ikwuano is bigger than one party’s endorsement meeting.”

The controversy touches on a recurring challenge across Nigeria’s political landscape — where internal party decisions are frequently dressed up as community-wide mandates to lend them greater legitimacy and political weight ahead of elections.

Anyaragbu’s intervention draws a clear line: endorsements made within a party structure belong to that party and must be communicated as such. Attaching the name of an entire local government to a partisan exercise, he warned, is both misleading and disrespectful to the varied political voices within Ikwuano.

“Be clear. Be honest. If the Ikwuano LP elders endorse Otti, say so proudly — that is your right as a party. But the moment you attach Ikwuano LGA to it, you are speaking for people who never gave you that authority,” he said.

Political watchers in Abia State are expected to follow the fallout closely as the 2027 governorship race continues to intensify across all three LGAs of the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
