Pro-Wike PDP Faction Inaugurates Lagos Caretaker Committee, Floats Idea of Backing Tinubu in 2027

Lagos – The Peoples Democratic Party faction aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike has further entrenched its parallel structure by inaugurating a 19-member State Caretaker Committee for Lagos, with a senior official hinting at potential support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.

The committee, inaugurated in Ikeja on Wednesday, is chaired by Mr. Kayode Ogunbiyi, with Mr. Jamiu Awofala as Secretary. The move follows the faction’s dissolution of the previous state executive.

“Issuing Red Cards” and a Stunning 2027 Suggestion

At the event, Deputy National Secretary Adedeji Doherty, representing the faction’s National Chairman Abdulraman Mohammed, launched a scathing attack on party leaders like Governor Seyi Makinde and Chief Bode George, accusing them of fuelling the crisis.

“We are issuing red cards to those hell-bent on destroying the PDP,” Doherty declared.

In a remark that reveals the faction’s strategic alignment, Doherty stated it would not be “out of place” for the PDP to support President Tinubu, an APC member, to complete a second term in 2027.

“I believe in Wike’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu in 2027. It is his prerogative… Unseating Tinubu in 2027 would be a herculean task,” he added.

Rebuilding and Congress Plans

The new Lagos caretaker chairman, Kayode Ogunbiyi, accepted the mandate to rebuild the party, stating that congresses at all levels would commence on January 9, 2026, and be concluded within 60 days.

He appealed to members who had left the party to return and assist in the rebuilding process.

This development in Lagos, coming shortly after a similar committee was set up in Oyo State, signals the Wike faction’s determination to establish functional structures in key states, deepening the PDP’s existential crisis.
