ABUJA – Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has launched a scathing critique of the federal government’s non-kinetic strategies for addressing the nation’s security crisis, labeling the approach an “expressway for criminals to do worse.”
The Abia South Senator, speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, expressed “righteous anger” over what he perceives as a policy of appeasement towards bandits and kidnappers.
He argued that methods focused on dialogue and pacification, rather than kinetic military force, effectively reward criminal behavior. “This is nothing but paying someone just to enable him to come back tomorrow and even do the worst things,” Abaribe stated.
The lawmaker’s comments come amid rising public frustration over insecurity. He also questioned the effectiveness of security agencies, referencing persistent allegations from villagers about collusion or inaction that allows attacks to proceed unhindered.
Abaribe contrasted the situation with the Nigerian military’s reputation internationally, expressing difficulty in reconciling that image with the perceived helplessness displayed domestically.
His stance adds a significant political voice to the debate on security strategy, challenging the government’s current framework and calling for a more robust, kinetic response.
