Abia State Introduces Compensation for Teachers in Remote Areas

In a move to boost morale and support educators, the Abia State Government has announced it will pay compensation to teachers serving in public schools located in difficult-to-access parts of the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made the announcement following an Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti. He stated this initiative is a key part of the administration’s ongoing reforms for the education sector.

These reforms also include the recruitment of new teachers, ensuring regular salary payments, raising the teacher retirement age to 65, and providing regular training.

Kanu also revealed dramatic results from these policies, noting a over 100% increase in public school enrolment between July and October this year. He credited this success to the state’s free education programme at primary and junior secondary levels and other new policy measures, which have restored public confidence in government schools.
