Accord Denies 2027 Tinubu Pact, Reaffirms Adeleke’s Support for Osun Poll

The national leadership of the Accord Party has dismissed reports that the party has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, describing the claims as “unfounded” and “misleading.”

National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem made the clarification on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja, reaffirming that the party’s immediate focus remains the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15, 2026 governorship poll.

“There is nothing like that. This is a political party and Governor Adeleke is our candidate. If there is any such endorsement, I assure you that the media will be the first to know. It will come from here,” Mgbudem stated.

Billboard Controversy

The denial follows a heated controversy over a billboard sighted in Iwo, Osun State, which featured images of both Tinubu and Adeleke. The All Progressives Congress (APC) had accused Adeleke of exploiting the President’s image for political advantage, a claim the governor’s camp has denied.

Mgbudem expressed strong confidence in Adeleke’s chances, stating: “On Governor Adeleke, everybody in this country knows he has done wonderfully well in the state. And the people are eager to vote for him again.”

No Presidential Candidate Yet

The chairman added that the party has no presidential candidate at this time and is still finalising modalities for party primaries. Aspirants have begun purchasing nomination forms for various positions, and any official position on endorsements would be channelled through the party’s secretariat.
