ABIA – Chief Chukwunma Nnochiri, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and senatorial contender for Abia Central, has commended US President Donald Trump for what he described as Trump’s “proactiveness and doggedness” in defending Nigerian Christians in the northern regions.
The political leader’s endorsement adds to the growing mixed reactions from Nigerian political figures regarding Trump’s recent statements about Christian persecution in Nigeria and his threat of potential intervention.
Chief Nnochiri, who is positioning himself for representation in the National Assembly, praised the US President’s willingness to address the security challenges facing Christian communities in northern Nigeria. His comments reflect the ongoing political debate within Nigeria about the appropriate international response to the country’s security situation.
The ADC chieftain’s statement comes amid broader diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and the United States, with the Nigerian government maintaining that addressing internal security matters remains a sovereign responsibility that doesn’t require foreign military intervention.
