ADC Demands Probe Into Members’ Arrest In Rivers

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Rivers State chapter has called for an immediate investigation into the arrest of three of its members following the disruption of a political meeting in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the demand was contained in a statement signed on Saturday by the party’s Rivers State Publicity Secretary, Chizy Enyi, alleging that Nigeria Police personnel and members of local vigilante group OSPAC disrupted the meeting and intimidated opposition supporters.

According to the party, the three members, Confidence Amadi, Chikezie Justice and Isaiah Thomas, were arrested on cultism allegations after a consultative meeting convened by ADC’s Ikwerre House of Assembly candidate, Jeffrey Wobodo, with some participants allegedly assaulted and phones seized during the raid.

The ADC alleged that when Wobodo sought the men’s release, the Isiokpo Area Commander, ACP Felix Ojiaku, said they would be charged based on “an order from above,” a directive the party said requires clarification. It further alleged that OSPAC members later assaulted ADC members near the police facility before other officers intervened.

The party drew attention to an earlier incident in which Isaiah Thomas’s residence was allegedly attacked and set ablaze weeks prior, questioning why he now faces cultism allegations, and insisted that “political opposition is not cultism.”

ADC called on the IGP, Rivers Commissioner of Police, and the National Human Rights Commission to investigate, while vowing to continue peaceful mobilisation across Rivers State ahead of 2027.

CDA News Nigeria will continue monitoring this developing situation.
