ADC Writes CJN, Seeks Swift Supreme Court Ruling on Leadership Crisis

The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President David Mark has formally urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to facilitate the timely delivery of judgment in the party’s lingering leadership dispute currently before the Supreme Court .

In a letter dated April 28, 2026, the party’s counsel, Shuaibu E. Aruwa (SAN), warned that continued delay could jeopardise the ADC’s participation in the 2027 general elections .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Supreme Court had, on April 22, 2026, heard arguments in the appeal marked SC/CV/180/2026 and subsequently reserved judgment . The five-member panel, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, is yet to announce a delivery date.

However, the Mark-led faction warned that unless the apex court delivers judgment within the next three days, the ADC faces a “grave and irreversible risk of being excluded from participating in the 2027 General Elections” . The lawyers argued that the party’s ability to meet statutory obligations is directly tied to the outcome of the appeal .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the party drew the CJN’s attention to actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which, acting on a lower court ruling, de-recognised the ADC leadership and removed it from official records . This has left the party without a recognised leadership structure even as a registered political entity.

“In the absence of a recognized leadership, the ADC cannot lawfully conduct its primary elections or submit the names of candidates for the 2027 polls,” the petition noted .

Millions Face Disenfranchisement
Mark is contesting the March 12, 2026 decision of the Court of Appeal, which directed all parties to maintain the status quo ante bellum in a suit filed by the rival faction led by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe . He argues that the appellate court overstepped its bounds by intervening in the internal affairs of a political party.

The party maintained that a delay in judgment would disenfranchise millions of Nigerians subscribed to the ADC .
