Aftermath of Primaries: Obi Rallies NDC Aspirants for Unity, Accepts Outcomes

Abuja — The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has appealed to aspirants who participated in the party’s recently concluded primary elections to accept the outcomes and rally behind the party’s broader mission ahead of future elections .

Obi made the appeal on Wednesday during the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, amid ongoing efforts by the party leadership to consolidate internal cohesion and address grievances arising from the primaries .

CDA News Nieria reports what Peter Obi said “I want to sincerely appeal to all our aspirants, those who participated in our primaries, to accept the outcomes in good faith,” Obi said. “In every democratic process, there will be winners and there will be others who did not succeed. What matters most is what we do after the process” .

The former Anambra State governor acknowledged that the NDC had achieved remarkable organisational milestones within a short period, moving from registration to congresses, conventions, and primaries in approximately 90 days .

“We have done congresses, we have done conventions, and we have done primaries all within about 90 days. Even established parties struggle with this,” he noted, urging members to show “understanding, patience, and sacrifice for the greater good of the party” .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the NDC National Leader and former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, also appealed to aggrieved aspirants not to abandon the party, assuring them that mechanisms for reconciliation and dispute resolution were already underway .

“I call on all aspirants… Even if the outcome has not been favourable to you, take it that you may have lost today and win tomorrow. In whatever has happened, it is the party that has won,” Dickson said .

National Chairman Moses Cleopas described the party’s rapid growth as extraordinary, likening the NDC to “Noah’s Ark” and expressing confidence that it would remain focused on its mission of transforming Nigeria .

Obi disclosed that the party plans to embark on a nationwide engagement tour aimed at strengthening its grassroots structures and deepening political education across the country .

“We will soon begin visits to all states of the federation. We do not want members always coming to Abuja; we will go to them,” he said. “We must engage directly with Nigerians, understand their realities, and build our policies around their needs” .

Dickson announced that the NDC plans to adopt electronic voting for future congresses and primaries, describing it as part of the party’s commitment to innovation and transparency .

“In the next couple of months, we shall unveil our platform for electronic voting for all offices, congresses and primaries in the NDC,” Dickson said. “We believe Nigeria has the capacity to embrace technology-driven electoral processes, and the NDC will show the way” .

The NEC meeting concluded with renewed calls for unity, discipline, and collective responsibility, as party leaders urged members to put the primaries behind them and focus on strengthening the organisation ahead of future elections .

“No political movement succeeds without sacrifice. If we remain united, focused, and disciplined, we will build something truly different for Nigeria,” Obi said .
