Amupitan Dismisses ADC’s Call for Resignation, Calls It a Distraction

Senator Amupitan has dismissed calls from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) demanding his resignation, describing the appeal as a distraction from critical national and legislative matters.

In a statement released on Thursday, Amupitan emphasized that he remains committed to his duties and will continue to serve his constituents effectively. He described the resignation call as politically motivated and aimed at shifting focus from ongoing development initiatives.

“The calls for my resignation are baseless and intended to create unnecessary distractions. I remain focused on delivering meaningful results for my constituents and contributing to national legislative progress,” he stated.

The ADC had recently urged Amupitan to step down, citing alleged internal disagreements and dissatisfaction within certain party factions. The party claimed that his continued tenure could hinder cohesion and party objectives ahead of upcoming elections.

Amupitan, however, stressed that his mandate comes from the electorate and that he would not be swayed by internal party pressures. He also called for unity and constructive dialogue within the ADC to address internal challenges rather than resorting to public campaigns for resignation.

Political analysts note that such disputes within opposition parties are likely to intensify as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections. They also highlight the importance of focusing on governance and constituency service rather than public spats.
