A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Comrade Chinweuba Anyaragbu, has rejected the recent endorsement of Senator Nkechi Nwaogu for the Abia Central Senatorial seat, insisting that the district’s zoning arrangement must be respected.
Reacting to Nwaogu’s endorsement by Nzuko Umuada Abia, Anyaragbu recalled that the Abia Central seat has traditionally rotated among local governments within the Ngwa and Ikwuano/Umuahia blocs. He alleged that the zoning sequence was disrupted when Nwaogu, who hails from Osisioma Ngwa, served two terms, preventing other areas from completing their turns.
According to Anyaragbu, the rotation history shows: Senator Bob Nwannu (Isialangwa South – one term), Senator Ifeanyichukwu Adighije (Umuahia South – one term), Senator Nkechi Nwaogu (Osisioma Ngwa – two terms, altering the rotation), and Senator T.A. Orji (Umuahia North – two terms). He argued that the current turn belongs to Ikwuano and should be allowed to complete its two-term tenure.
“It is unfortunate that Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, who was a bench warmer at the Senate despite her juicy committees, wants to truncate our senatorial rotation again,” Anyaragbu stated.
He urged the APC and all political parties to respect the zoning framework to ensure fairness and unity across Abia Central. Political observers note that zoning remains a sensitive issue that could shape party primaries in 2027.
