…Two Suspects Arrested, Service Rifle Stolen as Police Launch Manhunt
Armed assailants have killed a police inspector, Henry Effiong, inside the residence of the Imo State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Chief Rex Anunobi, in New Owerri, the state capital.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the incident occurred on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the commissioner’s residence located at No. 1 Sokom Villa Area E, New Owerri. The deceased inspector was attached as a security aide to the commissioner and was on guard duty when the attackers struck.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the assailants reportedly disarmed the inspector, stole his service rifle and mobile phone, before killing him with a machete. His legs were found tied, with his body positioned towards the bathing area. A police situation report indicated that the commissioner contacted the police at about 8:00 a.m. after his housekeeper alerted him that the inspector had been murdered.
The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Olivia Patrick, aged 31, and ThankGod Mourice, aged 25, in connection with the killing. They were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has directed a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects still at large. The police have urged members of the public with credible information to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.
