SOKOTO — Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Sokoto State narrowly escaped death after an armoured vehicle provided by the state government shielded them from bullets during a recent ambush by armed attackers .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the NSCDC State Commandant, Akinrun Emmanuel Ajayi, disclosed this on Tuesday while receiving members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during a courtesy visit to the command .
Ajayi displayed a damaged operational vehicle as evidence of the dangers confronting personnel during operations. He attributed the survival of his officers to the armoured vehicle among four recently supplied to the command by the Sokoto State Government .
“If not for the effort of the state government, especially the four vehicles recently provided to us, including the armoured vehicle, something could have happened. The bullets could not penetrate and the men were able to escape,” Ajayi stated .
The commandant noted that the incident highlighted the importance of properly equipping security agencies, especially as criminals adopt increasingly dangerous tactics . He lamented that the sacrifices of security personnel often go unnoticed by the public and stressed the media’s role in telling their stories .
Ajayi called for closer cooperation between the NSCDC and journalists, describing the media as essential partners in tackling insecurity. He also directed officers to make their contact details available to journalists for quick communication during security emergencies .
