ARMY ARRESTS SOLDIER OVER N114M FRAUD, FAKE OSISIKANKWU STORY

UMUAHIA, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Army has arrested a serving soldier, Amoke Simon, over an alleged N114 million fraud and false claims of involvement in the 2010 operation that killed notorious kidnap kingpin, Obioma Nwankwo, popularly known as “Osisikankwu.”

The suspect, a member of the Nigerian Army Engineers Corps attached to a regiment in Lagos, was apprehended at the Port Harcourt International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Abuja. Joint troops of the 14 Brigade and the 6 Division Provost Groups carried out the arrest following investigations into allegations of fraud and impersonation.

According to military sources, Simon allegedly defrauded the Abia State Government by falsely presenting himself as a key participant in the operation that neutralized Osisikankwu, a claim that earned him official recognition and promises of medical assistance.

Further investigations revealed that the soldier had also been on the radar of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for multiple fraudulent schemes. Sources disclosed that he allegedly defrauded a company of N100 million, obtained N6 million from an individual under false pretenses, and duped others of about N8 million.

Military records have since confirmed that the suspect had no role in the 2010 operation and was never deployed to the North-East, contrary to his claims of sustaining injuries fighting Boko Haram.

The suspect is being transferred to Lagos for further investigation and disciplinary procedures.
