The political camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has fired back sharply at former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, demanding that he produce verifiable evidence to back his alleged rigging claims.
In a strongly worded response, Atiku’s spokespersons described Lawal’s allegations as reckless, unfounded, and politically motivated, urging him to either substantiate his claims or retract them immediately.
The Atiku camp maintained that such unsubstantiated accusations were designed to distract from the real issues facing Nigerians, and called on the public to disregard what they termed “political mischief” from a desperate actor seeking relevance ahead of the 2027 elections.
“If Babachir Lawal has evidence of any rigging, let him present it before the appropriate authorities rather than making noise in the media,” a source close to the Atiku camp stated.
The heated exchange between both political heavyweights further underscores the deepening tensions within Nigeria’s northern political establishment as the 2027 presidential race continues to gather momentum.
Observers say the war of words between Lawal and the Atiku camp signals a broader battle for the soul of northern politics ahead of one of Nigeria’s most anticipated elections.
