A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has stirred fresh controversy within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, could face expulsion from the party.
Fayose made the remarks while reacting to ongoing internal disagreements within the PDP, particularly the growing divide between factions aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other party leaders.
According to Fayose, the actions and positions taken by Makinde in recent political developments may not align with the party’s expectations, suggesting that disciplinary measures could be considered if the situation persists.
He also expressed the view that many party members are more comfortable with the Wike-aligned bloc, which he described as influential in shaping the party’s direction.
The comments come amid intensifying internal tensions within the PDP, as stakeholders continue to grapple with leadership disputes and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political analysts note that the latest remarks highlight the deepening divisions within the opposition party, raising concerns about unity and cohesion. They warn that unresolved conflicts could impact the PDP’s ability to present a strong front in future elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Seyi Makinde has not publicly responded to Fayose’s comments.
