Benue State Government Orders School to Refund Over N100,000 in Excessive WAEC/NECO Fees

The Benue State Government has directed a public secondary school to immediately refund the sum of N106,000 it charged each student for the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) registration.

The order came after aggrieved parents petitioned the State Ministry of Education over the excessive fees, which far exceeded the official examination costs. State officials, upon investigation, found the charges to be arbitrary and in violation of government guidelines on standardized school levies.

The ministry has warned all schools in the state against imposing unauthorized charges on parents and students, emphasizing that such actions are illegal and punishable. The specific school involved has been instructed to return the funds without delay.
