LONDON — Chelsea legend John Terry has made a bold claim about the future of Arsenal’s defensive lineup, stating that new signing Ezri Konsa may have permanently replaced William Saliba in the starting XI .
The former England captain shared his views on the FC Bullard TikTok channel, following Arsenal’s £55 million acquisition of the England international from Aston Villa . According to Terry, who worked with Konsa during his time as an assistant coach at Villa Park, the 28-year-old defender brings qualities that will keep the Frenchman on the sidelines even when he returns to full fitness.
“I think even when Saliba is back fit, he doesn’t get back in the Arsenal team. I think Konsa is that good,” Terry said .
Saliba, who was a key figure in Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season, aggravated a back injury at the World Cup and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, with his return not anticipated until winter 2026 . Terry praised Konsa’s unique attributes, describing him as aggressive and quick enough to recover when the ball goes behind him .
