Climate Change Act Sponsor, Sam Onuigbo, Bags African Excellence Award

LAGOS – Hon. Sam Onuigbo, the former lawmaker who sponsored Nigeria’s landmark Climate Change Act, has been honored with the African Impact Excellence Award 2025.

The award, presented by The Voice News Magazine, Netherlands, recognizes Onuigbo’s pivotal role in steering the Climate Change Act to passage after it had failed in three previous National Assembly sessions.

The award committee cited his relentless effort in securing presidential assent for the bill and his continued advocacy for climate issues across Nigeria and Africa.

The formal presentation is scheduled to hold at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos.

Onuigbo, who currently represents the South-East on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) board, has previously received multiple national and international honors for his work on environmental governance.
