The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Muhammad Sani to 20 years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of concealing information about an alleged notorious bandit leader identified as Danranmi.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the court convicted Sani on two terrorism-related offences, including his failure to provide security agencies with vital information that could have led to the arrest of the alleged bandit leader.
According to the prosecution, Danranmi was allegedly involved in supplying firearms and ammunition to kidnappers and bandits operating in Niger State. The court held that Sani’s failure to disclose relevant information constituted a serious offence under Nigeria’s anti-terrorism laws.
Delivering judgment, Justice Emeka Nwite ordered that Sani serve 20 years in prison without the option of a fine. The judge further ruled that the prison term would take effect from January 11, 2023, the date of his arrest.
The convict is expected to serve his sentence at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the judgment underscores ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to strengthen the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping through the enforcement of relevant laws.
